Hiking > Al (tnhiker)  > History > Elkmont Cabins and Historic Area
Elkmont is located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park about 8 miles from Gatlinburg, TN. In the early 1900's this area was a popular location for cabins--typically vacation cabins--populated by a group known as "The Appalachian Club". The cabin tenants have all gone now and most of the cabins will soon be torn-down. Here are photos of most of the ones still standing along with shots of two cemeteries and an old bridge.

Al (tnhiker) > The leaseholder for this large place is listed as "Miller". Technically it was not a "public" clubhouse but clearly it is of the old Swiss Chalet Lodge style. This building is NOT the "short list" for preservation (it will likely be destroyed).
