Elkmont is located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park about 8 miles from Gatlinburg, TN. In the early 1900's this area was a popular location for cabins--typically vacation cabins--populated by a group known as "The Appalachian Club". The cabin tenants have all gone now and most of the cabins will soon be torn-down. Here are photos of most of the ones still standing along with shots of two cemeteries and an old bridge.
The leaseholder for this large place is listed as "Miller". Technically it was not a "public" clubhouse but clearly it is of the old Swiss Chalet Lodge style. This building is NOT the "short list" for preservation (it will likely be destroyed).
