Oh yeah, it was a good day to be on the AT in the Smokies. Saturday, 9/20/2008 found me pulling-on my long-sleeved shirt as I stepped out of the car in 48 F temperatures in the parking area near the peak of 6,643' Clingman's Dome. Clear skies and a brisk breeze out of the north made this feel more like a November day instead of mid-September. I was here to check out the newly renovated Double Spring Gap hiking shelter some 3 miles to the west along the Appalachian Trail (AT).
