Hike from 5,000' Newfound Gap along the AT to Sweat Heifer Creek trail and then drop down to Kephart hiking shelter some 2,600' lower. Climb back up to the AT via Grassy Branch & Dry Sluice Gap, pass by Charlie's Bunion and Icewater Spring shelter just before topping-out at over 6,000' elevation. Bump and twist another 2 miles back down the steep and rocky AT to the parking lot at Newfound Gap. 13.6 miles total with over 4,500' of total climbing. Spring wildflowers and gushing creeks galore. This is a Smokies Classic Hike and is one of my top 10 favorites in the park.
